David O. Sacks (Partner, CEO):
David Sacks is an entrepreneur who founded Room 9 and internet startup Geni.com, of which he is also CEO. Previously, Sacks was the Chief Operating Officer of PayPal. He also advised Fortune 500 companies as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, and served as a legislative aide to a high-ranking congressman in Washington, D.C. He has a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University. Sacks is the co-author of the book, The Diversity Myth, about his undergraduate years at Stanford. His articles have appeared in numerous publications, including The Wall Street Journal and San Francisco Chronicle. As a television commentator, he has appeared on Firing Line with William F. Buckley and C-SPAN.
Daniel Brunt (Partner, Co-President):
Daniel Brunt joined Room 9 upon the company's inception and oversees development and production. Previously, he spent four years at Creative Artists Agency starting in CAA's mail room as an agent trainee. Promoted into the motion picture literary department, he worked for two years with Rand Holston, co-head of the motion picture literary department, and for one year with Craig Gering, literary agent. Brunt's career in the film and television industry began at the Irv Schechter Company as an assistant to agent Frank Balkin in both below-the-line and literary departments. Prior to his work there, and following his graduation from the University of Denver, he was marketing director at Hummingbird Productions, the Nashville-based commercial music production company.
Michael R. Newman (Partner, Co-President):
Michael Newman handles Creative Affairs and Post-Production for Room 9. Newman graduated from Stanford University, where he first met David Sacks and began a conversation about movies that continues to this day. He went on to earn a doctorate in government from Georgetown in Washington, D.C., and was teaching political science at California State University, Los Angeles when David arrived to start Room 9. It was an easy choice to sign up, given that the movies are in his blood. Newman's grandfather once operated every movie house in his hometown of Bakersfield, and used to hunt with John Wayne. And the job still allows this one-time teacher to pass judgment on other people's work, a task he truly loves!
